Android Phone awkwardness

When I'm texting or calling people on Android, certain numbers freak out my carrier.  From what I've read it's a common problem in 4.2.   Here's what I do to get past it, thought I should document it to help someone.

  1. Delete all messages related to the person, if it was a phone call, I'd delete the call log as well.
  2. Hit your home key button
  3. Hold down your home key button to open a list of running Apps (Some carriers disable this I think)
  4. Close all of your apps dealing with contacts, dialing and messaging.
  5. Go into system Settings > Storage (I get there by hitting the menu key from the home screen)
  6. Clear all of your cached data.
  7. Go back in to your contacts and edit the contact you just dialed.
  8. Add +1 Area Code before the number (i.e. +1 555 555 5555)
  9. Go back and try dialing by looking them up in the Address book
This works for me.  There is some caching that happens, which is why I do all of the following in the order.  Closing the tasks manually makes sure everything gets flushed out of memory.  Clearing the cache cleans up everything on the disk.  And then you fix it up so it'll use the +1.  After you send one message good, you should be clear in the future, it's just the first time.

I really wish there was a way to force a default +1 AREA on everything, but alas I guess there's not.

Hope this helps!
